Special to the NEWS

City of San Benito employees participated in a recent Heart Walk, joining communities throughout the region to promote heart health, physical activity, and overall wellness.

The event reflects the City’s continued focus on promoting healthy lifestyles among employees and residents. Through community wellness initiatives, the City encourages preventive care and underscores the importance of staying active.

In addition to community involvement, the City of San Benito prioritizes employee health through comprehensive benefits and wellness programs. The City recently selected a new employee health insurance plan that expands access to care and reduces out-of-pocket costs.

The plan includes zero-copay options for certain services, including doctor visits, online and virtual health care, and other tools that support timely, convenient medical care.

The City also offers health screenings throughout the year, helping employees monitor their health and address potential concerns early on.

“Promoting wellness goes beyond events,” said Human Resources Director Christine Castillo. “By investing in robust health benefits and promoting preventive care, the City supports a healthier workforce and a stronger community.”

The City of San Benito remains committed to fostering a culture of wellness through employee benefits, health education, and participation in community initiatives, according to the press release.

The American Heart Association’s Heart Walk is the premier, noncompetitive walking event held in over 1,000 cities nationwide to raise funds for lifesaving research into heart disease and stroke. It promotes physical activity, celebrates survivors, and unites communities to fight the nation’s No. 1 and No. 5 killers.

Key Aspects of the Heart Walk:

Activity & Participation: Events typically offer one- or three-mile family-friendly routes. Companies often form teams to support corporate wellness and community engagement.

Celebrating Survivors: Survivors are recognized, often wear special red hats, and are honored for their strength.
