Recently, a photo illustrating a body found in the La Paloma area began circulating online. This photo left many wondering about the nature of the pictured incident in various comment sections on social media.
Despite rumors, according to Cameron County Sheriff Manuel Trevino, the subject in the photo was not deceased.
“Somebody had brought it to my attention that day that they had seen something on Facebook… but the information was wrong,” said Trevino.
Trevino added that an unresponsive male was found at 281 and Leal Rd. at approximately 2 p.m. The subject had a wound to the head and was taken to the hospital. According to Trevino, the subject survived his injuries.
An anonymous reader sent the NEWS a screenshot from an online Facebook group showing the body. The subject had a black sweater with what appeared to be white pajama bottoms with red and black plaid stripes. The sweater’s hood obscured the subject’s face. The body appeared to be in a fetal position and badly bloodied.
The NEWS attempted to acquire a report on the incident from the Cameron County Sheriff’s Office, but did not receive a response as of the time of publication. The NEWS has issued an Open Records Request to obtain the report. Trevino did not disclose the subject’s identity.
