Simultaneously, the Rotary Club of San Benito is also hosting Christmas at the Park on Sun., Dec. 15, from 12–5 p.m., also at Rotary Centennial Park.

Both events are open to the community and feature several activities specifically for children and adults young at heart. “The event is filled with Christmas Magic for the kid in all of us,” said Rotarian Dr. Olivia Z. Rivas.

According to event organizers, activities include a Magical Moment with Santa Claus, storytelling, speaking with the Grinch and many more hands-on activities for children such as cookie decorating, coloring contests, face painting and letters to Santa.

A highlight of these magical Christmas activities is the arrival of Santa Claus who will bring Mrs. Claus to help him make the journey, Rivas said. According to Rivas, the public is invited to take a picture with Santa and Mrs. Claus.

The festivities include a performance stage featuring numerous San Benito CISD school children singing, dancing and providing musical renditions of various Christmas songs. Several SBCISD Elementary Schools are participating by featuring their choirs, dance groups, folkloric groups and cheer groups. A Jazz quartet from Harlingen CISD will be on stage as well. Other community talent will also be featured on the performance stage.

Food trucks/tents with funnel cakes, tacos, sandwiches, hamburgers and other food will be available. Area businesses are participating by setting up tables with a variety of activities and useful information and exhibits for all who attend. Local vendors will be available, providing attendees an opportunity for last minute Christmas shopping.

All three events, the parade, posada, and Christmas at the Park are free and open to the public.
