Holiday activities coming in Dec.

Area residents and visitors have several holiday events and activities to look forward to in the coming weeks.
Market Day on historic Robertson St. is having a special Christmas-themed, Robertson St. Sip, Shop, and Stroll event this weekend, Nov. 29-30, from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. For more information, contact the Shop with a Little Bit of Everything, located at 225 W. Robertson, San Benito, at (956) 456-4012.

The San Benito Professional Firefighters Association (SBPFA) is also conducting a toy drive on Nov. 30, 2024, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the San Benito Walmart Superstore. The SBPFA is asking that toys be new and unwrapped. Monetary donations and store gift cards are also welcome. For more information, contact the San Benito Fire Department at (956) 361-3850.

The City of San Benito is hosting its annual Community Christmas & Tree Lighting event, Christmas on the Resaca, on Friday, Dec. 6, 2024, from 6-9 p.m. at the Heavin Memorial Park, 705 N. Bowie St., San Benito.

The free event features music, an ice skating rink and an appearance by Santa Claus. For more information, call City Hall at (956) 361-3800.

Padilla Ranch, located at 30415 Alex Trevino Rd., in San Benito, is sponsoring a Christmas Toy Drive, Barbeque & Trail Ride event on Saturday, Dec. 14, 2024, starting at 1 p.m. Padilla Ranch, owned by siblings Clarissa and Christopher Padilla, is partnering with the San Benito Police to donate toys to children in the community.

The event also features food and live music. The Padilla family is providing chicken plates for the first 100 toy donations. Non-trail riders are asked to provide two unwrapped, unopened toys and trail riders are being asked to provide one gift.

The City of Los Fresnos is holding its 12 Days of Christmas Parade & Festival on Saturday, Dec. 7, 2024, starting at 5 p.m. in downtown Los Fresnos, Memorial Park, 900 N. Arroyo Blvd. For more information, call (956) 233-4488.

Rio Hondo Elementary School is sponsoring Christmas Spirit Week on Friday through Thursday, Dec. 13-19, 2024, at Rio Hondo Elementary, located at 700 N Reynolds St., Rio Hondo, TX. For more information, call (956) 748-1050.

The City of San Benito will hold its 82nd Annual Christmas Parade on Saturday, Dec. 14, 2024, starting at 6 p.m. down Sam Houston Blvd. in San Benito. The Deadline to register for the parade is 5 p.m. on Dec. 11. For more information, contact City Hall at (956) 361-3800.

The Rotary Club of San Benito is sponsoring its annual Christmas at the Park Posada on Sunday, Dec. 15, 2024, from 2-4 p.m. at Rotary Centennial Park, Callandret Black History Museum, 305 Doherty St.
In conjunction with the Posada, the Rotary Club of San Benito is holding its annual Christmas at the Park event between 12-5 p.m. at the same location. Activities include coloring contests, face painting and letters to Santa which will be published in the San Benito News.

Area businesses will be setting up tables with a variety of activities, useful information and exhibits. Local vendors will also be available to provide an opportunity for last-minute Christmas shopping. The festivities also include a performance stage where San Benito school children will be singing, dancing and providing musical renditions of various Christmas songs.

Several SBCISD Elementary Schools are participating by featuring their choirs, dance groups, folkloric groups and cheer groups. Other community talent will also be featured on the performance stage. Food trucks/tents with funnel cakes, tacos, sandwiches, hamburgers and other food will be available.

Finally, the City of Rio Hondo will hold its 2024 Christmas Parade on Saturday, Dec. 21, 2024, at 6 p.m. through downtown Rio Hondo. For more information, call (956) 748-2102
