Parks fall victim to vandalism, again

San Benito parks were once again victims of vandalism last week. Specifically, vandalism at the Heavin Resaca Trail and Falligrant Park is what led Mayor Rick Guerra to call for action on his Facebook page late last week.

“We are looking to set up cameras or other deterrent measures,” read Guerra’s post.

During a phone conversation with Guerra, the mayor said the acts of vandalism included damage to toilets and lavatories, which present an issue because they are costing the City and taxpayers.

“I talked to the City Manager, who brought it up to me, and we want to get the highest resolution cameras with night vision, which would cost between $8-10K a camera,” Guerra said. “Also we want to get the PD to do more run-ins in parks.”

According to Public Relations Director David Favila, the vandalism was discovered by City crews during their daily inspection and has since been removed.
