Embattled Assistant Superintendent Resigns: Sanchez named to oversee Human Resources

By J. NOEL ESPINOZA

Ten days after filing a Freedom of Information Act request to inquire about his employment status, San Benito Consolidated Independent School District (SBCISD) officials confirm the resignation of Assistant Superintendent of Human Services, Dr. Kevin Phillips.
“San Benito CISD has accepted the resignation of Dr. Kevin Phillips,” read an email sent on Tuesday to the News. “Henry Sanchez, Director of Recruitment and Employee Engagement, is currently overseeing the Department of Administrative Services (i.e., Human Resources).”
In the email stating his resignation, officials didn’t address whether Phillips has been reassigned to a different position within the district. After the executive session, the board approved what they discussed in closed session, but didn’t provide further specifics.
The News filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request with officials on Nov. 2 after school administrators continued evading or refusing to answer media questions about Phillips, who was at the time, was said to be on administrative leave. The request had been sent via email to Superintendent Nate Carman, Celia Longoria, then director of public relations for the district up until last week when she resigned her position, and Isabel C. Gonzalez, who was the public information and communication specialist and who now has been named interim director of public relations.
The News has attempted, on several occasions, to reach Carman and SBCISD Attorney Antonio Torres to answer questions about this matter, but to no avail. Some questions include whether a grievance has been filed against Phillips with the board.
At a Tuesday regular board meeting, Carman and Torres still declined to answer questions regarding this matter. Before the meeting, Carman first said that he will be available to talk after the meeting, but after the meeting he still refused, claiming that he’s been often misattributed by the News.
“Many times I’ve been misquoted,” Carman said. “We’ll respond to you in writing.”

Definitely scammers like that man Garcia who is in charge of the construction (upkeep) of our schools, the money he asked for is 30,000 over of what the job is being done at Fred both. It’s time to become watchdogs of our town and get these thieves behind bars not just fired or giving them a chance to resign from there milking job title. Oh that chief of security in a meeting that FACE, a program where parents/guardians volunteer (to do work that lazy teachers don’t do themselves, Teachers it comes with your paying title) had a meeting where they asked questions in which a grandma told them about the concerns of the fraternizing that is being conducted by the security with students that chief answered well what do you want for us to be all stiff if us being friends with the students allows us to know what is going on- disgusting human just like a thief, they’ll find a way to clean its self well you dirty rat if that was the case then why is there so many problems with drugs in the schools? You should have no problems if your being told, lieing twisted human! No you and yours take long hour lunches, what do you think that you are untouched NO I (WE) want better for my town I’ve watched how the many have worked in this town and have done nothing but lift your collar of entitlement, that will be over with I’ll be watching and I’ll get all you accounted for! And for those who think you’ve gotten away with it- I beg to differ.

Yeah it happens SB Native on campuses too.. the “lead young male custodian is chatting with the secretaries (most likely on the clock) .. and the administrators don’t say anything.. sometimes they are there too gossiping also called (brown-nosing, kiss@&&) with the office staff and the other female custodians (I suppose fear of retaliation) are BUSY cleaning. (Of course no one says anything.. bunch of BS and cover up) I’m sure it happens in more than one school.. I’ve seen it first hand, it’s disgusting.. Those so called board members need to wake up and do unannounced visits to all the campuses.. (board member appreciation by campuses is a joke).. by the way some of those board members have kids in schools.. those kids are rude to teachers and threaten teachers jobs cause their parents or relatives are on the board. There’s so much that schools sweep under the rug.(or hiring theives and liars) this is why this district is going down the drain.

Really ironic that they use the phrase,”The Gold Standard”.

  3. Observant

You know how we are warned about scams..on television, radio etc.. well these people that SBCISD hired are a pair of scammers.. promising change.. yeah right… More like stealing from the community.. and ruining careers…. people voted for that bond…what a shame.. instead of gold standards.. San Benito CISD..is heading towards the low standards.
