With Election Day over, there are several candidates who will now start preparing their campaign for the November general elections. But then of course, there are the inevitable run-offs. A total of four races will have to go through the run-off process in May after candidates failed to garner at least half of the popular vote.
The most notable runoff would have to be the one pitting former Indian Lake Police Chief John Chambers against retired DEA agent Victor Cortez. Chambers surprised many by picking up 3,395 votes just several weeks after a local jury found him guilty on 14 counts of tampering with government evidence. Despite topping the 2,662 votes Cortez received, other candidates in the race prevented either from claiming the needed percentage of votes to claim an outright victory.
