‘I Was Here First’ – Town’s first baby of 2016 born at 12:39 a.m.

Sitting in her hospital bed in the early morning of December 31, Daniela Sanchez was expecting to be holding her first child in her arms after a few hours of labor. Well, it was a little over 18 hours of labor later before doctors eventually decided it was time for a cesarean section. Born just 39 minutes into the New Year, baby Andrew Daniel Juarez can forever claim the title of the first baby of 2016 from the City of San Benito.
Sanchez was originally admitted to the hospital a little after 6:00 a.m. last Thursday, with the full expectation of a natural birth. As time went on, however, it became clear the only way to deliver the baby was through a c-section.
