While San Benito CISD Interim Superintendent Dr. Filomena Leo is currently handling all the day-to-day duties of the top position in the district, the school board is optimistic that they will have their new full-time superintendent ready to go when the calendar turns to January.
According to a press release from the school district, over 35 applicants have turned in their resume to be chosen as the new superintendent of the San Benito CISD. The school board will hold a special school board meeting on Thursday, October 22 at 6:30 p.m. where they will review all candidate applications.
“All school board members understand that the selection of a school superintendent is the most important decision that a school board can make,” said San Benito CISD School Board President Anna Cruz. “We look forward to reviewing the applications and selecting the best qualified leader for this District.”

As a retired educator, I just have to laugh over all the commotion created by this district in hiring a new “super”.
They are the most overrated and overpaid employee in a public school. They are also the least useful and necessary employee in a school district. There is nothing a superintendent does that cannot be done by a subordinate administrator or administrators. They are mere monitors of political correctness who lecture principals and vice-principals on what they should say and not say to teachers and parents. They generally are the source of problems instead of problem solvers. Oh, let’s not forget the “bobble-head” duty at school board meeting. And all this for just a little over a hundred thousand dollars a year. What a deal San Benny!
