It’s been three months since the death of former San Benito City Manager Manuel Lara and the City has yet to have any major discussions on filling the position. In total, 17 applicants have already turned in their resumes, but there remains no deadline for applications to be turned in. Interim City Manager Art Rodriguez has been fulfilling the daily responsibilities of the City Manager position and claims everything is going smooth with the day-to-day operations.
Rodriguez, who was the Assistant City Manager under Lara, has added his name to the list of applicants for the full-time job but says he has not been involved with the search process due to it being a City Commission decision.

  1. I have to agree with your comment. It’s unfortunate but true that this town has seen little to no growth compared to our neighboring towns. We have to be the slowest or most stagnate growing town in the valley. It’s very frustrating to see our down town area and shame our so called leaders can’t do anything about it. But yet, we could afford to pay $17 million for a water/ sewer plant that never worked but yet we’re still getting penalized for it.. Now, that’s what’s wrong with our town, take care of your compadre at all cost!!!

  2. Will, after reviewing the 17 candidates for the city manager position one in particular stands out to me, Ronnie Garcia. I was insulted seeing his name on the list. There should be much stricter requirements so qualified applicants apply not just anyone who thinks they got political pull can apply. That’s the reason our town looks the way it does, because no one takes it serious.. What a mess..

  3. Well I hope the city commissioners make a WISE decision. As for the city running SMOOTHLY as MR. RODRIGUEZ STATED I THINK NOT. WHY DID THE FINANCE DIRECTOR QUIT? Why has the CITY ETHICS ORDINANCE NOT PASSED ? Time for NEW BLOOD.
