It only lasted about 20 minutes, but it was the longest 20 minutes of Jenna Guerra’s life.
“I was sitting in my car waiting for the children to be released and then I saw San Benito police pass by in front of me with the lights on and I knew right away that something was wrong,” said Guerra, whose son is a Kindergartner at Landrum Elementary. “Shortly after a teacher walked out with her class, but was then ordered by police to go back inside. That’s when panic set in for me because my son was inside and I had no idea what was going on. It was such an awful feeling,” she added.
About 30 minutes prior to the end of the school day, Landrum was put on full lock down due to police looking for a suspicious individual in the immediate area. In a press release issued by San Benito CISD Director of Communications Celia Longoria, the District claims the lockdown was necessary due to the fact that SBCISD police, in conjunction with city police, were investigating an incident where an unnamed man made a threatening remark to a mother who had children attending the school.
