With the departure of former SBCISD Superintendent Dr. Marc A. Puig becoming official on Friday, Interim Superintendent Dr. Filomena Leo can finally say she has “come back home.” The 1968 San Benito graduate had her four-month contract approved at a board meeting last week and has already began the process of setting up in-school visits once classes start next week.
“I truly believe that it is critical for the school leader to be visible in the schools,” said Dr. Vela. “The entire learning and teaching process takes place at the campuses, so I believe my presence there is extremely important.” Dr. Leo plans to make a rotating schedule to visit each school no matter how long she stays with the district. “I’ve made very personal and professional commitment to this job and to this community,” she added.

I have a Bright Idea! Let’s eliminate the Superintendent position and allow the Board Members to dictate policy. It’s being done already so might as well save 100K plus a year and not worry about the Super caving in to Board Members.
It sounds like political correctness instead of real leadership will be the order of the day. Visit schools, rub elbows, drink a little coffee…life’s good…talk about old times to the tune of ten grand per month. Hey SBCISD, got any more of these jobs? I once read (author unknown) that “political correctness is intellectual tyranny”. I had to agree. So what’s my point? This district will suffer another loss at the end of the year when it comes to accountability time. How many times can you SBCISD be a losing school district before drastic action is taken by TEA? I don’t know. Maybe someone could enlighten me.
