Although it was originally thought that 37 school district employees would not be brought back next year, 28 of those have officially been rehired by the San Benito CISD, leaving only 9 without a job for next year. The new school board directly voted on the rehiring of these employees. And although the overall financials of these new contracts have not been finalized, Superintendent Dr. Marc A. Puig is claiming that over the last 5 months the district has also reduced full-time employees by 153, thus resulting in $6.3 million in savings for the future. When asked if this meant that some full-time employees were now moved to part-time employees, the district had not responded as of press time Tuesday.

  1. @ Juan

You make some very good points that will be answered because we have a useless board president that can’t even run a meeting. It had been rumored this women wanted power but she’s not competent to run a school board meeting that scripted. This board started off bad when Arnold Padilla was not renominated as board president. At least that guy had a back bone and stood for what was right; on the other hand, Anna Cruz, Oscar Medrano, Michael Vargas and Sloppy Joe are simply there for self gain.. These board members are a total joke!!! Hang in there Arnold Padilla and Hector Leal.. Unfortunately, Angel is not creditable because he supported Anna Cruz and now he must regret it..

WE NEED TEA – wow what a joke. The SBCISD needed TEA well before this current board president and the previous one. Your argument isn’t an argument. It’s just a rant that belongs out in pasture full of bulls.

    I don’t get it.
They said they needed to get rid of about 300 positions,to be in their budget, they said the cause of this was the insurance scam and the previous administraton hiring when the enrollment was dropping.Yet after all this fanfair they have only let go of afew positions, how can this help or remedy the money budget,Or like others here have implied is a big school tax increase on the way ?

What the heck is an ” Executive Director of Leadership”? I have never heard of such a title in a public school.
Mr. Puig…as the instructional leader of SBCISD; is it not YOUR JOB to lead and “steer the ship” in the right direction. It sounds as if you are delegating responsibility and work that should lie on your shoulders and not with someone else. And as the Superintendent, are you not indeed also the Chief Financial Officer? Kind of reminds me of that 60’s song, “Ball of Confusion”.

  2. Not surprised that Janie Ortiz ” Fatima Huerta’s” sister got one of the deans position. We should ask for public information requesting the number of applicants plus their certifications and check if these folks actually have the credentials for the job. Apparently, she was given special treatment and allowing her a probationary period of a year to get certified. That’s horrible especially if there were applicants that had all the requirements for fulfill the positions… Now you wonder why Fatima left her seat to receive publics favors.. You see the pattern with these non- educated people they have no class, nor integrity… San Benito politics at its best… Thank God, I’m out.. Total joke..

What!!! The Superintendent is creating three new top level positions. Executive Director of Leadership, Internal Auditor, and Chief Financial Officer. Wait a minute! As Marco says what the point?

So what was the point of not renewing these contracts when most of these folks were rehired? This district is back where it started…the dog chasing its tail. Not much is going to change San Benny.
