HEARTBREAKER- Lady ‘Hounds dream season ends in 3-2 nailbiter

AUSTIN— Teams from San Benito NEVER quit.
And on Friday night at Red & Charline McCombs Field, the Lady ’Hounds backed that claim up.
BIG TIME.
Down 3-0 heading into their final at-bat, the girls scratched across two runs and almost more, but the rally ultimately fell short in a 3-2 loss to Lewisville in their Class 6A state semifinal.
“That’s Lady ’Hound Softball. We don’t give up. Things might not be going our way sometimes, but we’ll always fight til the bitter end,” San Benito coach Elias Martinez said. “We had a close call at home, and we lost, but it wasn’t because of a lack of effort.
Right now our girls’ faces don’t show it, but I hope they enjoyed themselves. We were one game shy of the state championship, so that’s not too bad.
San Benito (31-4) was being no-hit by Lewisville ace Maribeth Gorsuch, who had 11 strikeouts on the night. Only two girls reached base, Stephanie Contreras walked in the fourth and Deztiny Hernandez reached on an error in the sixth.

Coach Martinez choked! He put in a pinch runner and failed to coach her of the situation the team was in. 2 outs, run no matter what. The runner should have be coached not to watch the ball when hit to see if fielder catches it or not. Runner should have been running. Runner would have easily made it home to tie the game. Bad coaching. Choked!

you lose when your team starts playing dirty that catcher did two plays that cost them the game as seen on video of game she elbowed two players running in for home base . The coach should have taken this girl out of the game the first time she did that but Dirty players only do what the coaches tell them so this loss is on the coach.

San Benito football and other sports are played like this you start losing and they start playing dirty…..

The video you’re referring to is the Conference 4A game between Huffman Hargrave and Needville. Wrong teams, wrong conference “joevette”.

High fives all the way around to this team. They did excellent. We will all smile when talking about them for years to come. They have put the big beautiful lone star of Texas right over San Benito.

This team was amazing. They represented San Benito well, made us all very, very proud and should hold their heads up high. They are just as good as any team in Texas and definitely good enough to have won it all. They brought the town together and put a ton of pride into it. That was evident by how loud and beautiful it was in the stadium with a majority of it in purple and gold. Great job; smile.

Great effort and heart put forth by the Lady Hounds. They didn’t give up and fought til the last out. The coaching call to put in the pinch runner on 2nd base in the bottom of the 7th and not instruct her to run no matter what with one out left to go was tragic to say the least. Eventually “we were so close” won’t be good enough. None the less, congrats on an amazing journey Lady Hounds..
