The cries for change within the SBCISD school board were heard loud and clear on Saturday, with two new candidates winning in overwhelming fashion and only one keeping her spot by the slightest of margins. The ballots for city commissioners also saw some change with one new commissioner to be sworn in next Tuesday.

@ Alvin
You have missed the boat by a long shot. The reason our self funded program went south is because the business manager did not do her job correctly. Example, there has been no agent from the insurance plan for over a year. Who’s managing the insurance? Yours truly Emma McAll… The financial budget was all well and good when Limon was there simply because he moved money around to make sure everything appeared good.. It took a new super with a 3 yr contract to expose the truth about our districts horrible situation with over staffing, horrible managed health care system( that Oscar Medrano brought in HCA), and lack of accountability.. That’s the problem with our district… Keep on allowing the Tumberlinsons to manipulate you and we will never succeed in San Benito.. Trust me…
Time will tell who missed the boat? Who was right and who was wrong. How long will it take to fix the mess left by Ms Gonzalez ? Only time will tell. I will say poor old Tumberlinson is getting more credit than he deserves, the tshirt vendor pulls more strings, or a least he used to do so.
My oh my, you sure seem to know curriculum…. NOT!
Anyone with a school background knows that one year statistics does not prove anything right or wrong.
Move on to a topic you know something about
This is the same words that was said about the “old board”. This new board of two will have to “catch-up” real fast to see what the rest of this board has done.
Yliana ran the show up until May 2014 and Fatima went along, as Finance Chair, with everything Yliana wanted and directed…. all documented…to the tune of a lotttttt of money.
Mr. Gonzalez (a veteran board member and not his first rodeo) and Mr. Vargas will do what is in the best interest of the students and staff. Mrs. Cruz will be a very capable Board President as long as her good buddy stays out of the district politics.
Remember, we elected the Three of You. I know I voted for the right people. Purple Pride!
For the sake of our children and our community I hope this new “super board” is the answer. I am not a sore loser so I truly wish this new board the absolute best. All the people you wanted out are out, so no more excuses just results from this point forward. I pray they are the answer because if your not you have no one to point fingers at anymore. As long as you do what we need you to do you have my support if not you will be voted out and blamed just the same. Good Luck I whole heartedly wish you the very best.
you’re*
wholeheartedly
let’s breathe a sigh of relief someone who can’t type a simple post w/o multiple errors wasn’t elected to a “school board.” lord knows we’ve had our fair share of unqualified individuals elected. i know, ivy league grads make typos, too; oh well.
Lets not get our hope’s up too soon.I think the changes made are just cosmetic in nature.Want to bet,six weeks from now we’ll be seeing the same circus, just different actors.
It is what it is. Yes, the Puppet Master former board member himself, has managed to get more of his people elected. One thing’s for sure, these board members will be held accountable. Now, let’s see who they point the finger at when things go wrong. The Puppet Master got his super board that can fix all problems with our district.
We have a: Shameless, power mongering, former voted out of office board member, and present bar playing DJ. A scholar who poses a conflict of interest to our district, and a reelected board member that cost the district thousands of dollars with her unproven curriculum program from which she had a personal gain.
Is this what the people voted for?! We need to hold this new board accountable for what happens from this moment on, and I hope and pray they make the right choices for the sake of our children and employees.
A’hem! Bitter much?! Let the new board handle business, the same business that you could never handle. You just tend to your elementary school
Super Board? Power monger-er? LOL Where do you come up with this stuff? Classic.
You can throw in all the names in the book that you want. In the 4 years La Princessa was in charge, her and her 3 cronies managed to mess up our insurance and now it is costing people’s livelihoods. That is fact, our insurance was just fine before the infamous letter to oust Bob Trevino Insurance. We have always been self funded as far as insurance goes and never had problems like this. You can not compare Blue Cross/Blue Shield with Cracker Jack Insurance. We wouldn’t be in the mess and they all might very well still have been elected officials had they not screwed it all up.
As for the “unproven” curriculum, come on. One year in and it’s no good? That’s why in life when we make decisions we give them time. The data to support your claim after ONE year would be inconclusive at best. We don’t know how good or bad it would be without giving this program or any other program enough time.
So get over yourself. Stop with the name calling. We aren’t kids. Let’s just give these new board members time to see what they can come up with to fix this.
Joe G. Gonzalez wants to be elected to the SBCISD school board again?
Uh, yes lady. We need him there to fix the destruction you and Salazar Insurance Group left.
It looks like the citizens of San Benito did speak loud and clear Senorita Madama.
Congrats to the winners! Anna, Michael, and Joe G!
it’s Sad…….Ana Cruz brought in the 1 million dollar- instructional program just 6 months ago with an addition of 14 positions; since than, the program has been shut down and the 14 instructional positions gone. Thank You Ana Cruz.. What a joke!! Only in San Benito do you elect these types of people.. Glade my children go to charter schools but unfortunately my taxes goes here.
Jose, I agree. We only hope the damage done by those forgettable four (plus one local vendor that was a board member wanabe) can be repaired with time.
Jose, Amen to that!!!
Well now that the last two of those forgettable four have gone down like Tony Montana at the end of Scarface, I think we can all relax knowing that at the very least we have a competent majority that will lead the district back to respectability.
