All his life, J.c. “kid” Guzman has been what most would call a go-getter. He played through a middle school football game with a cracked rib, made the San Benito varsity football team as a sophomore, and at about 140 pounds, became one of the top wide receivers in the Valley by his senior year. In addition to his football prowess, Guzman was one of the fastest sprinters in the RGV, earning him a spot on the track and field team at Texas A&M Kingsville, where he would eventually lead his squad to a conference title. “I loved competing and competing at a high level. I knew I was fast but to be able to go up there against some of the best in the state and still beat most of them, that was an awesome feeling,” said Guzman. It was clear, however, that Guzman truly understood the term ‘student athlete.’
