In a previous column we learned about the type of person we need to be in order to have the favor of God in and over our lives. There are expectations. There are standards of conduct and living. Grace is not freedom from responsibility; rather it is freedom to live responsibly in the eyes of God.
Noah was a shining example of this grace. This grace was reflected in the choices he made in the midst of a corrupt and wicked time in the history of man. Living well in the eyes of God earned him the favor of God. Noah had the approval of God; therefore God revealed to Noah His plans to deal with the wickedness and corruption of the time.
Then what? What happened after the revelation? Did God just walk away after this sacred conversation or was there an assignment given? God does not give us revelation without purpose. Anyone who lives and walks in this type of a living, vibrant relationship with the God of the Bible knows this to be true.
Revelation equals confrontation. There is a holy expectation that always follows revelation. The Bible is called the Good News for a reason. It is Good News when revelation comes that brings deliverance – deliverance that liberates us from death, rebellion, disobedience and our own foolishness. Noah was given revelation of what God was planning to do. Next came the confrontation.
The assignment God gives to us in the revelation is also the confrontation. Our actions create the environment for that revelation to be made known. The assignment to build the Ark was much more than building a boat to save his family and some of the animals. It was God’s tool of evangelism to the place where Noah was.
God will tell you WHAT to do. “Make yourself an ark of gopher or cypress wood; make in it rooms (stalls, pens, coops, nests, cages, and compartments) and cover it inside and out with pitch (bitumen).” (Genesis 6:14 AMP)
God will tell you HOW to do it. “And this is the way you are to make it: the length of the ark shall be 300 cubits, its breadth 50 cubits, and its height 30 cubits [that is, 450 ft. x 75 ft. x 45 ft.]. You shall make a roof or window [a place for light] for the ark and finish it to a cubit [at least 18 inches] above–and the door of the ark you shall put in the side of it; and you shall make it with lower, second, and third stories.” (Genesis 6:15-16 AMP)
God will tell you WHY to do it. “For behold, I, even I, will bring a flood of waters upon the earth to destroy and make putrid all flesh under the heavens in which are the breath and spirit of life; everything that is on the land shall die.” (Genesis 6:17 AMP)
Our obedience to the revelation and the assignment always brings about the favor and the blessing of God. “But I will establish My covenant (promise, pledge) with you, and you shall come into the ark – you and your sons and your wife and your sons’ wives with you.” (Genesis 6:18 AMP)
When God gives us revelation He will also give us the specific instructions of how to carry it out. If we will take the time to be in relationship with Him on a consistent, daily basis we will know His instructions. He promises us, “Keep on asking and it will be given you; keep on seeking and you will find; keep on knocking [reverently] and [the door] will be opened to you. For everyone who keeps on asking receives; and he who keeps on seeking finds; and to him who keeps on knocking, [the door] will be opened.” (Matthew 7:7-8 AMP)
It is not a passive communication process. It is an interactive one. Noah “walked with God” on a daily basis. Noah knew God and God knew Noah. The mistake we can make is not waiting to hear what God has to say on the assignment He has given us. Do we know His mind towards us? Do we know the specifics?
