The ports of Harlingen, Port Isabel, and Port Mansfield announced they have received funds to undergo much needed maintenance dredging.
The funds were distributed to the Army Corps of Engineers via an appropriation in the so-called “CRomnibus Bill” (a combination of the Continuing Resolution and an omnibus spending bill) which was passed by Congress in late 2014. Dispersal of the funds was left to the discretion of the Corps. Representatives from the three districts, along with Congressman Filemon Vela (D-Dist. 34), met with “the Corps District, Division and Headquarters to explain the need for dredging their respective channels,” according to a statement released on behalf of the districts.
