BROWNSVILLE — The Hanna Lady Eagles softball team didn’t get much hitting practice in on Tuesday night.

And you can blame San Benito ace Crystal Castillo for that.

Castillo turned in a business-like no-hitter along with 17 strikeouts in a tremendous performance as the Lady ‘Hounds began 32-6A district play with a 5-0 shutout of Hanna.

Castillo struck out the first nine batters she faced, striking out the side in the first, second, and third innings while she was undoubtedly in a zone few can comprehend. Hanna only mustered up one base runner all night, and that runner reached on an error.

San Benito got on the board first in the second inning when D.D. Padilla came across to score. Kim Harper crossed home in the third to push the lead to 2-0.

The big Lady ‘Hound offensive output came in the fourth inning, when Ali Huerta, Audrey Huerta and Mel Gonzalez each scored to provide the final margin.

That was all Castillo needed as she continued to mow down the Lady Eagles en route to the easy win.

San Benito will now travel to Corpus Christi this weekend (weather permitting) to compete in the Mira’s Softball Bayfront Bash. The tourney always draws some of the best teams in the state and the Lady ‘Hounds have an excellent track record at the event.
