Eleazar R. Guerra

LA FERIA, TX—Eleazar
R. Guerra passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Thursday, December 18, 2014. Eleazar was born in San Benito, Tx. on August 23, 1945 to Marcos and Ernestina Guerra. Shortly after his marriage to Margarita Sanchez in 1966 he joined the Army. He served in Vietnam with the 5th. Infantry Division (Red Diamond) and was honorably discharged in 1968. He and his family moved to Pasadena, TX. where he worked as a mail carrier for 20 years. When his wife retired they moved back to the Rio Grande Valley. Eleazar is preceded in death by his mother and father, his brother Marcos Guerra, his sisters Ofelia Guerra and Elena Rodriguez. Surviving him are his wife of 48 years Margarita, his two daughters, Celina Guerra and Maricela Guerra Canas. His precious granddaughters, whom he adored dearly, McKenzie and Madyson Canas. He is also survived by his sister Eva Lopez and his brother Carlos Guerra, his best friend David Yanes whom he regarded also as a brother. Also surviving him are his three nieces whom he loved dearly, Julie Guerra Ramirez, Gracie Guerra Little and Esther Guerra Martinez and numerous relatives and friends. The family would like to express their gratitude to the family and friends whose support and prayers provided strength through the very difficult times. The Guerra family would like to thank Dr. Daniel Farray, his nurses, Benji, Lisa, Judy, and Hector from Texas Oncology in Weslaco for caring for him for the past three years and also the Hospice nurses who took care of him during the last days of his life. Taking him to his final resting area are his pallbearers:
David Yanes, Serapio Garza, Robert Ramirez, Alfonso Sanchez, Gilbert Guerra, and Fred Soto. Visitation will be
held on Sunday, December 21, 2014 from 11:00 a.m to 1:00 p.m. at Heavenly Grace Funeral Home Chapel.
Interment immediately following at Heavenly Grace Memorial Park. Funeral arrangements are under the direction
of Heavenly Grace Funeral Home and Cemetery.
