The end of the 21-day period before San Benito CISD’s lone superintendent finalist can begin work is soon coming to an end.

The time is reserved for vetting and negotiations, giving the parties a grace period should they rethink their decisions.

According to SBCISD Board President Arnold Padilla, the negotiations are moving along as expected.

“There are discussions about the contract,” he said, as talks go back and forth between lone finalist Dr. Marc A. Puig’s attorney and the school district’s attorney.

Padilla said that he is confident the district and Puig will reach an agreement at the end of the 21 days.

It’s possible that Puig will be ready to step in to his new position during the first week of December, according board member Angel Mendez.

Mendez’s understanding is that, “if everything works out well, the 21 days are done … negotiations completed,” it could be as soon as Dec. 1 that the school district begins the Puig era.

“Dr. Puig and I have communicated a few times; he’s very excited to come to our community,” Padilla added.

In a letter to the editor published in the Nov. 16 edition of the San Benito News, Puig said, “I am truly honored to have been selected as the lone finalist for the San Benito CISD superintendent position.”

He wrote about “making small talk with several locals” during a short stay with his wife. “…We were incredibly humbled by their warmth and kindness,” Puig said of San Benito citizens.

  1. The latest coffee shop conversation is that, Arnold Padilla made it very clear with his new job he can’t receive phone calls pertaining to the district. I find that extremely ironic because when we the tax payers of San Benito paid his $90k plus salary he was always at Central Office during working hours, so what’s the difference now. Why is some other towns tax dollars more important than ours? Bottom line, he never respected our town and continues to make it a mockery… Joke!!!

    That’s why it’s called “Clown Town”,vatos.

  2. So your saying that Super Arnold Padilla AKA puppet didn’t not follow the recommendations from school board 101. I’m glad I’m not the only one that’s starting to realize these clowns are just as bad or if not worse than the previous board. These newly elected board members spoke a huge game but at the end they turn out to be nothing more than a huge flop that the expense of our children’s education! I agree with the previous comments Ana Cruz and Fatima must go and unfortunately Angel, Arnold and Medrano are not up for re-election. Bunch of useless clowns!!

  3. We the educators of this district are not taken seriously, only during election time when they need our vote. Unfortunately, it’s the same song dance in our district, the board members take care of their own. Just review what has transpired these past few months. First, Arnold Padilla brother got a huge raise of $6k plus a year, along with the transportation director. Secondly, Ana Cruz brought in her $1million dollar program with an additional Administrator $105k to over see this useless program. Plus, Ana managed to hire 13 specialist to go along with program; meanwhile, you have Arnold aka puppet, saying we’re over staffed in our district.. Thirdly, Oscar Medrano brought back Felix after he has quit four previous times at a higher rate.. Those are just a few idiotic waste of tax payer dollars these board members have made, and we still have not seen a raise.. By the way, all this information is public record, please inquire yourselves and follow the BS. I strongly hope this coming election will bring major change to our board! I totally agree, Ana Cruz and Fatima must go!!!!!!

The first lesson they teach you in the new school board training in San Antonio and superintendent class is the meaning of the “21 day period”.
Neither the lone finalist nor any school board member must have remembered that lesson.
The filing for board trustee is in January 2015.
