The search for a new superintendent at San Benito CISD continues.

A total of 49 candidates applied for the position, which Arnold Padilla, president of the SBCISD Board of Trustees, highlighted in a telephone interview on Monday.

“The only comment that I can make at this time is that we are extremely pleased with the quantity of individuals that were interested…” he said.

As board president, he is happy that the district isn’t facing any “issues” that would deter potential applicants. “I was always concerned that … if issues and dilemmas were radical in any way that they may prevent good people from wanting to come and work in San Benito,” he said.

The board as a whole, he explained, was “united” in trying to bring “the best to San Benito.”

While he cannot share the discussions held during closed sessions, he did offer, “As board president I am ecstatic and extremely pleased at the unity and … the questions that were posed by the trustees.”

As the board continues looking through its applicants, Padilla said, “I have no doubt … in my mind that we will find the individual that we need in San Benito.”

Concerning the timeframe, Padilla said if the hiring process continues moving as it has been, the board should have no more than two finalists selected by the second week or November.

By the first or second week of December, according to the board president, the district may have its new superintendent.
