Martin Trevino

Martin Trevino was called home to his Lord on July 8, 2014 at the age of 91.

Martin was born on August 8, 1922 in San Benito, Texas. He was the oldest of eight children.

When he was 18, he enlisted in the United States Army Reserves and joined the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC). His duties in the CCC took him to Wyoming, Montana, and Colorado fighting wild fires and constructing wilderness roads. In 1942, his Reserve unit was called to active duty for World War II. He served in the southwest Pacific theater as a member of the Signal Corp. His unit was responsible for setting up communications which meant that he was always one of the first soldiers to go ashore on island invasions. Some of the invasions he took part in included New Guinea, the Philippines, and Okinawa. He, also, served as part of the initial occupation force in Japan.

After the war he returned home to San Benito for a few years, before being recalled to active duty as part of the United States Air Force in 1948. His duties in the Air Force Included being an engine mechanic, jet engine mechanic, crew chief, and jet engine instructor. His first assignment was in Germany where he participated in the Berlin Airlift. After Germany, his assignments took him to Merced, CA, Laredo, TX, Panama Canal Zone, Columbus, OH, and finally Roswell, NM where he retired as a Master Sergeant in 1965. After he retired from the Air Force, he worked for NASA in Houston and later in San Antonio as a Civil Service employee at Kelly AFB.

In February, 1955, he married the love of his life, Aurora Garcia. They were married for 48 years. They loved visiting their extended family over the years and entertaining their friends and family. But their passion was dancing. They loved to dance. One of his proudest accomplishments was attaining the position of Fourth Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus.

He is preceded in death by his parents Antonio Trevino and Guadalupe Cisneros Trevino, his wife Aurora, his grandson Stephen, his brothers Joe, Balthazar, and Pete, and his sisters Frances, Guadalupe, and Sarah. He is survived by his sister Arminda, his sons Tony (Katherine) and Roger (Marilyn), his grandchildren Samuel, Anna Marisa, Cristina, Gabriel, and Rudy and several great grandchildren, and his son’s mother-in-law Gloria Williams.

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff from Heart to Heart Hospice.

The visitation will be at Castle Ridge Mortuary, San Antonio, beginning at 1:30 p.m., with a rosary at 2:30 p.m. The funeral mass will be held at Resurrection of the Lord Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. Followed by internment at Mission Park North.
