San Benito CISD Superintendent of Schools Antonio G. Limón confirmed on Thursday that he would not be making any principal reassignments for the upcoming school year.

“After long and hard consideration, after reviewing the data, after meeting with individual principals, I informed the board Tuesday night that I was not going to make any changes,” Limón said. “I feel that most of the principals had just been at their campuses for a year. If we can give a football coach three years to prove himself, I don’t see why it would be any different for a first-year principal.”

The problem at Frank Roberts is that the teachers dont want to work with the principal. They were used to doing whatever they want with the previous principal Galvan. He wasnt a firm leader. I think the current principal tried the best she could but some of teachers dont cooperate thats sad .. thats also prob why scores sucked. Thats what happens when ‘change’ occurs , teacher retaliate and the studentsare the ones that end up losing. Plus the school gets a bad reputation. For all those teachers, TAs if it weren’t for the students , you wouldnt have a job. Do your job and dont be rude to thestudents as a parent , Ive I seen first hand and know many of you are very rude, if you dont like what you do then QUIT. BELIEVE me there are. Many ppl on the teaching waiting list ready to Teach and Care about our S B CHILDREN.

Regardless if Ed Downs ES has poor leadership, the school will sustain itself because of the demographics of the students, a high parental involvement, and the effectiveness of its’ teachers (most of them not all of them). The shift to raise the bar on campuses should be towards those that historically have not performed well for example, Frank Roberts ES didn’t do well at all; therefore, district administrators should question why it didn’t, look into what is going wrong, and what kind of support does the school need to become successful.

I hope the San Benito CISD Administration will protect the good teachers of Ed Downs of all it’s negativity and favoritism. Ed Downs has always had good leaders until now. But we agree to disagree and hope for the best.

I hear TEA is making their way from the upper valley to the lower valley and SBCISD is on their list of schools. I got my popcorn ready…..can’t wait.

I agree with your blog, but it still doesn’t change the fact that Mr.Limon was never held accountable. It’s showing on our children’s educational performance. Yes, I understand that Celeste is in charge of curriculum but who’s in charge of holding her accountable, Mr.Limon( the board is at fault for letting this virus affect our children’s education for 12 years).. We need to focus in the big picture and hold Professionals accountable for their performance.. We as a district look horrible and the board members get of ” Scott free” amazing.. I agree with the previous blogs that say our district is in serious trouble, but it’s the honest truth… Good job,Board Members!!!!!

The scores that we seem to be talking about only represent part of the picture of a school. We should be asking questions like: how many times did a principal actually spend time in a classroom observing a teacher teach, how many times did the principal meet with grade level teachers and talk about academics and how they could help the students be successful, how many times did the principal walk around during the lunch time and talk to the students… and not just the honor roll students… but all the students?

Yes, there were campuses that made improvements but on the whole, there were not. SBCISD has a major problem with instructing ALL the students. Many of my students have not come to my class on level for reading or math. It is not the new kids either. It is the kids that have been in our schools all their life.

Somebody please ask these tough questions. Don’t ask Mr. Limon because he has been gone all year. The one we should ask is Ms. Sanchez. She was the one leading the curriculum this past year. Now she has retired and here we are again, at the bottom of the surrounding districts. As an educator going back to school to become a more effective teacher, I would hope that whoever they bring in as the new superintendent that this person knows instruction and knows how to relate to ALL STAFF members and not only the ones related to board members.
I care about my students every year that is why I am staying at my school.
Remember to have your kids read during the summer.

Sometimes the negative out weighs the positives because we let it. Thank you Amador for publically speaking out about Mrs. Espinoza and her staff. I am also glad she is staying. For the people that left, the best to you.
I know Ed Downs will continue to climb to the top.

In all the negativity that there is in life, shouldn’t we all be on the same page when it comes to our most precious children? If you have selected the profession of education, you have a great responsibility.Be ready to embrace the challenges of change. Be ready to roll up your sleeves. Be ready to do everything within your power to love and help students succeed. Be professional, ethical, and positive.

For the School Board members and Administrators at central office, let’s get passed all the fog of negativity and make decisions on what is best for the students of San Benito. You have a bigger charge than to make your offices or positions a place for festering and oozing nothing but negativity. You owe the children of San Benito, so make decisions to benefit them.

God has blessed Ed downs with wonderful leaders. My niece goes to Ed downs and she loves mrs Espinoza. Glad to hear she and her assistant are staying. Any changes made and people leaving are for the best.

Great response to Mr.Limon’s professional decision to leave underachieving principles in their place. Why, are we as tax payers and parents surprised at Mr.Limon’s decision, that a prime example of his leadership skills.. This new board I have to say, is the worst board simply because they have been introduced with information and Arnold Padilla turns the other way so Mr.Limon can retire with his full pension. AP decision to bring Mr.Limon back is worst than the paid suspension, because Mr.Limon and a few others will get rewarded for not being held accountable and ineffective as the super for 12 years..( plus on a separate note, Mr.Limon is in vacation.. Really he just got paid $169k vacation and he has the audacity to take vacation.. Simply pathetic! Tax payer dollars there it goes.) Once again – Thank you Mr.AP for allowing all these nonsense to continue at our expense.. Sorry people we were fooled, bad.. All we can hope for is TEA or the FEDS to come clean house, STAT!!!

The teachers that left Ed Downs had decided to retire at the onset of the year or were offered other positions which took them out of the classroom early on for those that are misinformed. Either way every teacher had a choice to make. They could have continued to offer their best to the children of Ed Downs or select a different path. The individual choices of these individuals should in no way indicate anything other than their choice.I for one wish them the best in all that they do.

Ed Downs is one of the top performing schools in the district. With every year, change is required in order to give all children the best education possible to meet the challenges of the future. I know the staff at Ed Downs will come together as a family just as they always have. They will meet the challenges of change with positive attitudes to support the leadership provided by Mrs. Espinoza to rise to the top.

    Go Greypups!

  3. Once again it’s a prime example why Mr.Limon has never been an effective leader. I agree we have several great principles in our district but we also have some that need to go, bad.. The scores tell the story and Limon is turning the other way like he always does. It’s very apparent Mr.Limon is playing politics again at the cost of our children’s education. He was the worst investment our school district ever made, and it could be compared to the purchasing of the StoneWall Jackson.. Once again, we need major help in our school district!

I think the one’s that should have been moved and they really need to reconsider is Mrs. Espinoza along with her Assistant principal. Get rid of them. Ed Downs needs better representation. Moral has been at it’s lowest. I understand some of their best teachers have quit and some have retired because of these two ladies. God Help Ed Downs!!!

Great decision Mr. Limon! Football equates academics?
Our district needs to raise the bar for all of us involved in the business of educating our children.A first year principal should be expected to do well as are first year teachers. The problem is that some of these principals and /or teachers are not first year professionals. They have been shuffled from one campus to another as if their effectiveness was going to change. Our children deserve better.
Don’t worry if you are one of those low-performing principals/teachers, if after this year you still do not do well, you will be rewarded with a promotion to a newly created central office position or be on their way to another campus.

That’s right! San Benito is notorious for rewarding mediocre performance. According to Mr. Limon, everybody deserves a chance…so let’s take a ‘chance’ on the education of our children and let’s ‘hope’ they are educated well enough to be independent, self-sufficient, productive citizens.
And while we wait on that realization, Mr. Limon agrees that there is work to be done but he found it prudent to take a few days of vacation after having been suspended nearly a year. Really?!?!? A year of rest and relaxation wasn’t enough that he had to take MORE days off? Wow!!! What a way to express his care for our district! Pretty sad if you ask me.

@perfect, Agreed! Give these principals an opportunity to do well. Now, let’s get a good Superintendant that will hold all administrators, faculty & staff at a higher standard. Let’s get a superintendent that is not a puppet and will carry out their job. Something’s got to give. Our children deserve the best. I am hopeful that together it can be done.

The perfect statement by the superintendent…”If we can give a football coach three years to prove himself, I don’t see why it would be any different for a first-year principal”. Academics are finally on the road to move this district forward. This is the best news in over a year. Welcome back, Mr. Limon!
