Five-year-old Angelin Garza of San Benito is seen with a handful of hair she had cut to donate to cancer patients experiencing hairloss as a result of chemotherapy treatment.

While other children wish for toys or the latest gadgets on their birthday, Angelin Velaźquez-Garza wished for a haircut on her fifth birthday that would be donated to Locks of Love, a non-profit charity for cancer patients.

“She started saying she wanted to donate her hair at 3 years old,” said her mother April Garza of San Benito. “We told her when she turned 5 she could, so as soon as she turned 5 on June 1st,  she reminded me a few days later to go get her haircut.”

Angelin decided to donate 12 inches of her hair since she’s always wanted to help girls her age that do not have any. “She was really excited to get her haircut,” said her mother. “She’s been asking everyday if we’ve already sent it out, and she wants to see how it helps.”
