SPORTSMEN OF THE YEAR: Jasso, Mireles awarded annual athletic recognition

The 2013-14 San Benito News Sportsmen of the Year, seniors Nathan Mireles and Amber Jasso of San Benito High School, are seen inside the campus’ sports complex on Tuesday.

You’ve undoubtedly heard their names around town or read about their numerous athletic accomplishments in local publications; they’ve been leaders in the locker room as well as in the classroom.

These are the characteristics shared by San Benito High school seniors Nathan Mireles and Amber Jasso, who were named the 2013-2014 San Benito News Sportsmen of the Year.

“I feel like it’s an honor,” said Mireles, undoubtedly a man of few words. Aside from being a standout on the football field – he started as defensive back since his sophomore year – he is graduating high school with a 3.5 GPA and a number of academic accomplishments, including being named the National Honor Society Committee Chairman.
