San Benito City Commissioner Rene Villafranco still has his seat.
Villafranco was confirmed the winner in the Place 2 race for the City Commission after a recount on Monday indicated that the incumbent defeated challenger Shirley Vega, a businessowner in San Benito, by six votes.
At the end of Election Day on May 10, Villafranco held a narrow lead over Vega, 1,146 to 1,140. Before a re-count was announced, it was determined that 17 provisional ballots would be counted.

This definitely needs to be re-visited with a fine tooth comb.
Doesn’t make sense. According to published numbers and my other sources, Ms. Vega WON the early vote, WON election day, but lost the mail-in ballots by 3-1. Does that make sense?? Looks like Villafranco’s crew ‘worked’ the mail-in vote to insure his victory. Hmmm.
