Early voting in runoff elections begins Monday

Elections graphicEarly voting for the March 2014 Cameron County and State Primary runoffs is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. beginning Monday, May 19 through Friday, May 23 at the San Benito Community Building, located at 210 E. Heywood St.

Early ballots can also be cast in Rio Hondo at the Rio Hondo County Annex Building, located at 125 W. Colorado Ave. at the aforementioned times beginning Wednesday, May 21 to Friday, May 23.

The runoff election is slated from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 27. Polling locations will be at La Encantada Elementary School for Precinct 17; Sullivan Elementary School for Pcts. 18 and 22; San Benito Community Building for Pct. 19; Rio Hondo Civic Center for Pct. 20; Frank Roberts Elementary School for Pct. 21; Bonita Park Community Center for Pcts. 23, 24 and 103; Treasure Hills Presbyterian Church for Pcts. 34 and 44; Fred Booth Elementary School for Pct. 40; Ed Downs Elementary for Pcts. 50 and 109; First Station #4 in Harlingen for Pct. 79; and Rio Hondo High School for Pct. 81.

In the Democratic runoff for County Judge, Joe G. Rivera, who received 43.7 percent of the vote in the March Primary with 7,269 total votes, will be facing Ruben Peña, who received 28.4 percent of the vote with 4,724 total votes in the Primary.

The Democratic runoff for District Clerk has Eric Garza, who earned 28 percent of the vote with a total of 4,524 votes in the Primary, will face Elvira S. Ortiz, who earned 21.5 percent of the vote with a total of 3,466 votes in the Primary.

The run-off for County Clerk pits Sylvia Garza Pérez, who earned 30.7 percent of the vote with a total of 4,971 votes in the Primary, against Arnold R. Flores Jr., who earned 23.4 percent of the vote with 3,790 total votes in the Primary.

The run-off, a Democratic race, for Precinct 3, Place 1 Justice of the Peace will see Guadalupe Ayala, who earned 42.9 percent of the vote with a total of 1,212 votes in the Primary, face incumbent Manuel Flores Jr., who earned 37.9 percent of the vote with a total of 1,070 votes in the Primary.
