Man accused of killing cat charged with animal cruelty

A San Benito man was arrested over the weekend for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend and killing her cat.

According to a San Benito Police Department press release, an SBPD officer was dispatched at approximately 5:03 a.m. Saturday, April 26 to the 22000 block of Joines Road in reference to an assault.

Upon arrival, the officer made contact with a 19-year-old woman who alleged that her boyfriend, identified as 20-year-old Joshua Rivas, had assaulted her and killed her cat at his residence,
