Early voting to begin in school, city races

Early voting for the upcoming local elections is set for Monday, April 28 and will end on Tuesday, May 6.

The early voting poll location for the San Benito CISD Board of Trustees election will be at the SBCISD Tax Office, located at 152 E. Rowson St. The polls will open from 8 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.

Early voting for the San Benito City Commission elections will take place at the San Benito Municipal Annex Building, located at 400 North Travis St. The polls will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with the exception of Wednesday, April 30 and Tuesday, May 6, when the polls will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

In the race for the SBCISD Board of Trustees, Arnold Padilla will be challenging Place 4 incumbent June Aguilera. In the Pl. 5 race, Joyce Aguirre, Roberto “Bobby” Benavides and Rene Salinas will challenge incumbent Hector Leal.

Orlando “Papas” Lopez will attempt to unseat Pl. 6 incumbent Oscar Medrano. In the Pl. 7 race, Angel Mendez, Esteban “Steve” Rodriguez and Gilbert Weaver are challenging incumbent Julian Huerta for his seat.

In the race for the San Benito City Commission, former Pl. 4 City Commissioner Celeste Z. Sanchez, who’s also the current SBCISD Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction, will be challenging Mayor Joe H. Hernandez’ re-election bid.

Jose F. Rodriguez will challenge Pl. 1 Commissioner Tony Gonzalez, and local business owner Shirley Vega will attempt to unseat Pl. 2 Commissioner Rene Villafranco.
