Unemployment rate decreases in San Benito

The unemployment rate in San Benito as well as the majority of the Rio Grande Valley has dropped from 2013 to 2014, according to the Texas Workforce Commission.

The unemployment rate in San Benito dropped from 10.4 percent in February 2013 to 7.4 percent in February 2014, a three percent difference. The total employment from that time period increased from 8,519 to 8,632, a difference of 113.

“I think there are a couple of businesses coming into town,” explained San Benito City Commissioner JD Penny.
