Natalie Martinez, the goalkeeper for the San Benito Lady ’Hounds varsity soccer team, is moving beyond the doghouse to join the Wiley College Wildcats come fall.

While San Benito High School administrators and Wiley Head Women’s Soccer Coach Cristine Aquino looked on inside the SBHS varsity gym on Saturday, Martinez signed a letter of intent to play for the Wildcats in Marshall, Texas. The next chapter of Martinez’ career is daunting, she said, but welcomed. “I have a lot of emotions about this right now,” said Martinez. “I’m excited and nervous at the same time. It’s scary because I’ll have to step up my game to get noticed and earn my spot on the squad, and I have to be ready to do what they think I should do.”
