RIO HONDO – The Lyford Bulldogs came to Rio Hondo on Thursday morning looking for a win against a loaded Rio Hondo Bobcat baseball team that’s 13-3 on the season and has an impressive start thus far.

The Bulldogs started the game hot, scoring four runs in the first inning. Lyford’s early onslaught began with Jaime Cortez, who scored the first run off a double and Isaiah Chapa came in after a walk with bases loaded; Edgar Cepeda scored next followed by Jonathan Reyna off a single by Benji Vela.

Rio Hondo answered back with a single by Nate Adames who accounted for one run and Jeremy Garza brought in another with a sacrifice fly to center. That would be all from Rio Hondo for the rest of the morning, with the exemption of a sweet triple by Adames in the fifth.

The Bulldogs scored two more runs in the second inning, three in the sixth and finally another two in the seventh, effectively snapping Rio Hondo’s eight-game winning streak with a 11-2 victory.

After the game, Bobcats skipper Sergio Gonzalez said, “It’s an eye-opener. We haven’t lost in a while and sometimes you need a rude awakening to keep you humble.”
