It’s down to three.

The San Benito CISD Board of Trustees opted on Thursday to table the selection of a new head football coach and athletic director in lieu of additional time to interview and evaluate three finalists for the job.

The decision came via a 7-0 unanimous vote at a special meeting on March 6, in which the selection of a new head coach and AD was one of only two items on the agenda. Making the recommendation was Interim Superintendent of Schools Dr. Ismael Cantu; motioning was Board Secretary June Aguilera and seconding was fellow trustee Oscar Medrano.

and now there is one left…brown dropped out and now we are stuck with gomez maybe….the whole dang school board does not know what the hell they are doin…every one of those nitwits should be off the board cause they don’t know whats going on in sb…Aguilera should be the first to go because of her psycho family and the rest should follow….sb football program was doing so very well after pena left and it dropped like a rock…and its still falling as long as this sad gathering school board members are in office….im sure beto..the kid everyone see at the football games can pick a coach and he is more of a fan than any school board member….they are all bunch of selfish people who are only looking out for themselves and their pockets like Aguilera and her ipads her family sold to sb….you people made a laughing stock out of san benito and the whole valley sees it everyday as the coaches drop out every week…you school board members are just sad and you’re taking the school district with you and the kids…please do san benito a favor and resign right away…you are hurting the kids and don’t seem to care one bit….PLEASE GO AWAY

Heck let the school board coach the team…..Maybe The Huertas can do it. They seem to be running the district anyway along with the Aguilera girl with her dad……

Nothing personal to rey saldana but he has been out of the game for well over 12 years the game changes. He was a Tommy Roberts assisnt yes but that offense is obsolete now a days. I don’t know but toys had become a mess. What happens if the board doesn’t approve a coach that was a waste of 10k for nothing there is no coach in place after this entire process

Rey is itching to get out of BCMS. Go ahead and appoint him as super.. Dr. Cantu is just a paycheck collector, he don’t know diddly-squat about hiring a football coach either. Horrible job!

Why are candidates backing out? What are the school board, Henry Sanchez, Ram Partida, and Dr. Cantu doing that is so wrong that causes lead candidates to back out?

I cannot imagine a lead candidate saying no to the Harlingen, Sharyland, UT Longhorns, Dallas Cowboys, etc etc head coach football job if they were available. Something terrible has to be going on and enough is enough. They need to take a flamethrower to all those in charge of the joke that has become the SBCISD.

Now there are two if Cavazos backed out due to not enough money on the table. I tend to agree he wasn’t worth the money he was asking. However, who do you hire?

There are plenty of candidates that would love to be in the third spot since Cavazos backed out. But, I don’t blame him for doing so. I bet if you went with a SB alum he would do his best for the kids (boys and girls). Stop the political crap and take care of the kids.

In regards to the SBCISD, the SBCISD school board, and the SBCISD football program: I strongly encourage the community of San Benito to watch the closing scene (about 8 mins) of Scent Of A Woman where Charlie goes back to school for his hearing…

Harry, Jimmy, Trent = school board, chuy, interims, and other political scammers screwing over the students and future of San Benito.

A wise man once told me that San Benito will never be successful because of the old “Mexican Crab Syndrome.” I think we have a good ol case of it brewing here in SB. Good luck And God Bless this community.

What do we know about Patrick Brown and Daniel Gomez? We know Gus Cavazos at the 5A level was no better than Coach Gantt. How much money will they make? 100K. It is rumored that 5 years ago Scott Ford was offered over 105K and he turned the job down and stayed in Los Fresnos.. How many additional coaches will each require. Some want coaches that don’t teach any subject but are assigned to athletics all day without a teaching assignment. How much will that add to the personnel budget 200- 250K ? It is only money. The way this district is spending money it won’t be long before you start cutting like Rio Hondo. The District enrollment is down over 100 students. IDEA, South Texas, and other schools continue to take enrollment away. The District will have to eventually allow IDEA students to participate in Football and other sports with the Greyhounds which means even more students will leave the District knowing they can still participate in sports, band, livestock show, etc. under the district umbrella. The District will get no funding for those students. It is only money.
