Hound logoProposals to hire a consultant tasked with aiding in the search for a new athletic director and head football coach as well as the possibility of separating the two positions, which have long been consolidated, may be decided at a special meeting of the San Benito CISD Board of Trustees on Wednesday.

Trustees are scheduled to meet at 8 p.m. inside the John F. Barron Administration Building to discuss and take possible action on retaining “a search firm/consultant to assist in the hiring of an AD/Head Coach,” according to the meeting agenda.

Ok. 1) we don’t need to split the position – going to 6-A just means that they are reclassifying every school thats it. 2) spending 8 thousand, if that is accurate, is a waste of money. its a simple process
    A) you apply,
    B) your application gets reviewed based on a minimum standard set,
    C) if you make the cut you go on to interview,
    D) if you make the top three you re-interview
    E) Final decision is made…Greyhounds start winning…Everyone is happy….Except Cardinals. Ha Ha
    3) Everyone keeps thinking Partida…Saldana…I dont think it matters who gets it as long as it is a well rounded A.D. not just a head coach. Like I mentioned before, as well as other individuals that have stated the same fact. Sharyland is a winning school because of the A.D. not a head coach that concerns himself with just football. His assistant coaches have a vested interest in the other sports…baseball, softball, track and so on.
    4) about three years ago the san benito girls won almost every district sport…was it noticed by any one no, because football was the big concern. Dont get me wrong, I love my football hounds, but I love all my hounds the same, including the ones in band, choir and chess and so on
    5) Stop with the politics and lets get ourselves some Pride back.
REMEMBER….You Know…the honking cars downtown after a win…the painted windows downtown for every game.

I’m glad they hired a firm because that school board would not know how to hire ad/hc now they can actually hire a guy that is qualified to coach. Rusty Dowling was the Texas city head coach when they won a pair of state championships in the late 90s…. rusty Dowling knows how to evaluate and will pick a guy who can come in and do a good job BUT will the school board agree and let the guy who ever it is do his job without political bs and back him is another story.

I find it extremely strange that when a few of the magnificent 4 agree with the 3 amigos, theres no bashing about the decision..
It just goes to show who’s behind all the blogging nonsense.. Elections cant come fast enough..

      RB,

In my opinion, it varies depending on what story is published by the SBN. Some favor the 4. Some favor the 3. If I had it my way, I would hold reelections for all 7 positions in hope that all 7 would be removed. Reelecting only certain positions has its good and bad. The bad thing about it is that by the time elections come up again, whatever new members there are – they will have been exposed to the members that stayed on the board. Thus, the never ending cycle of bad influence and bad decision making by board members. Board members might be good people outside from being board members, but when it comes to being a board member, they all have shown bad decision making. All 7- all gotta go.

Teacher: Pepito, make a sentence using the word consult.
Pepito: I like to eat my watermelon consult.

The most important single ingredient in the formula of success is knowing how to get along with people. You agree to disagree leave the issue on the table and move on to the next. Theirs business and personal issues. In this case personal issues seem to get the best of people. Saying it’s our turn to rule instead of working together is failing the students and employees of San Benito schools.

Dear Parent…….. I think that you hit the nail in the head, however why not measure success by the results: the school results, during the other board, SBCISD was acceptable and recently it was unacceptable for two middle schools. If the superintendent can not raise scores in 6 years, its time for the change. The children deserve a good education…..why would you want to put the same people there if the scores are substandard. The children is what it is all about.

Ben, it has long been a myth that the scores are substandard. The district met standard, not even IDEA can say that. The unacceptable ratings were not based on student achievement. Those ratings should have been dropped, but the State changed systems and the District got stuck with them. I read that scores have consistently increased over the past 8 years.

Once again the board spends taxpayers dollars to hire a firm to assist in selecting qualified HC/AD. Really, i wonder what board members voted for the firm, let me guess ( magnificent 4 ), because the superior 3 can do no wrong!!
Its a sad day in san benito when Medrano/ Leal can dictate how they spend our taxpayers dollars.. Time for change people and it cant come fast enough!!!!

It’s one thing to help a qualified friend, family member or acquaintance IF there is a position available and only IF they are qualified, but to create positions and spend, spend, spend money that could otherwise be used for the students of this district is beyond that! If this city or district is being “trash talked” it’s because those Four are at it again and those Three don’t seem to be raising an issue about it. Those Three are just as bad as the Four for safeguarding their “positions.” We can agree on one thing…we need to unite for our kids. But you should also agree that what is right is right no matter what side you are on, right?

You make it very obvious what you stand for and thats unfairness, unethical and you support favoritism.
Before blogging and trashing boards members, make sure you give credit where credit it due..

    Taxpayer Money:
Headcoach/AD $94k, Def.Coord.$86, Off. Coord.$ 85, Def. Coord-Son $ 83, powerlifting coach $ 85k = unsuccessful football program.. That you (medrano and Leal ) for allowing these chunk of taxpayers money to be wasted!!
Come on folks its time to hold the board members accountable for their decisions that have unfortunately caused use 100’s of thousands of taxpayers dollars and our children’s education ignored..
    This is non sence !!!

It is amazing how we still have these unbelievable comments about political favors/for many many years our past school board members have done SO many political favors; for family members, friends ect. and it was not such a big deal THEN..the tables have turned and everyone is just venting on the matter. Why because its not the board from the past; why do you concern yourselves on who that family supports. Everyone is entitled to express their opinion and support whomever they choose. Come one people, we need to stop trashing our community and move forward. The new election is coming up and support your candidates and if it is not the current school board, well that is ok. We just need to unite as a community for our kids.

So, Richard, are you suggesting you wouldn’t be surprised if Berta Cabaza Principal Ray Saldana is hired as the AD position? His family has always pushed for it and will continue to do so. I’m not saying that he’s not qualified, but the political favors that you are suggesting is what raises my eyebrow… If you smell what the Rock is cooking!

Rock you obviously don’t know Mr. Saldana’s record or qualifications. FYI, Mr. Saldana has an AD certificate, has been a head coach (not a trainer) and had a great impact on the players. Mr. Saldana’s parents are true greyhound fans and his grandmother is the most dedicated fan. When the committee elected a coach they overlooked several good coaches with experience. You don’t need a consultant to hire an AD for San Benito. You need past players and locals who have followed the greyhounds and truly know Greyhound Pride and Tradition

Don’t insult Saldana by comparing him to Gantt. Many good coaches has been overlooked including Saldana, but the common factor is political favors. For whatever reason, Saldana or Partida have never been given a chance… Well, Partida is interim, but he’s not throwing his name in the hat. You can lead a horse to water but you can’t make ’em drink. Saldana I’m sure applied, and we’ll see if he gets the job.

Round two of pay backs on political favors to supporters. Round one were the principals and assistant principals appointed this summer. All of them were strong supporters of the mighty four. Now it is no secret that one of those principals has long wanted to be the A.D. It would not surprise me one bit if that principal is hired as A.D. However, that would be two political favors for that one family which may upset the others. As far as head coach is concerned, a district in the upper valley is hiring one. The Superintendent and several top level administrators are making the recommendation to the board. No parents, no citizens, no consultants, interesting concept. Administrators doing what they get paid to do. No micromanaging from the board.

SBCISD is not big enough to have a full time A.D. The last one was Robert Cortez and the only reason was to have him get rid of Tommy Roberts. Once that was done the position was combined back with the head coach. Dr. Cantu the $500 a day hired gun will most likely make the recommendation to split the positions again.

“I think this is the main driving force right now is if we want to pay two high salary positions.”- Dr. Ismael Cantu
This is the common denominator! San Benito CISD has money coming out the wazooo. Let’s just replace the toilet paper roll with dollar bills. If you split the AD/HC position, then since there’s a girls coordinator, then there must be a boys coordinator. Oh, what’s next… Assistant Athletic Director, Assistant Head Football Coach. It’s getting better and better. Two thumbs up!!

Interesting that the four want to separate the AD position? Are they considering hiring Chuy Aguilera for one of them? Why not? They’ve proven their ignorance for managing money and not using their “common sense.”
