It’s showtime!

The South Texas Youth Stock Show kicked off on Friday, Jan. 17 at the San Benito Municipal Fairgrounds, located off FM 510 near Business 77.

At 9 a.m., the judging began for steers and was immediately followed by the heifers. Taking home the top prize of Grand Champion Steer was 12-year-old Jake Rhyner for his 1,232-pound Brahman-Cross named Topanyeca.

“It’s fun [raising a steer],” explained Rhyner, a seventh grader at Rio Hondo Junior High.
