JV dark team falls to Memorial

The San Benito Greyhound JV dark team fell to McAllen Memorial at home on Monday, Jan. 13.

The San Benito Greyhounds junior varsity dark team was defeated by the McAllen Memorial Mustangs on Monday, Jan.13.

In the first, San Benito’s Jerry Delgado worked his way through the basketball court and netted 10 points. The Mustangs played well, however, and closed the first period ahead, 19-12.

Greyhounds Eddy Delgado then accounted for eight points, followed by Angel Torres who scored five. But the team continued to play from behind as the Mustangs ended the first half with a score of 38-25.

In the third period, the San Benito’s Xavier Torres made three free throws and sunk two shots. Lupe Zapata, Daniel Guerra, and Pedro Coronado each made two points for the Greyhounds as well. McAllen Memorial led at the end of the third by a score of 51-36.

Despite a fourth period surge and contributions from Guerra, who scored six points, and two apiece from Jose Angel Lucio Zapata, Delgado, Torres and Pedro Coronado, the ’Hounds fell to Memorial by a score of 60-52.
