SAN ANTONIO/SAN BENITO, TX—Frieda Schneider John, wife, daughter, sister and aunt went to her heavenly home to be with her Lord unexpectedly on December 23, 2013.
Frieda was born on January 17, 1921 in San Benito, TX to Jakob and Elsie Schneider, pioneers of San Benito. Frieda was the second oldest of eight children. She graduated from San Benito High School, and then attended Durham Business College. In 1974, she was married to Ludwig John and they enjoyed 39 years of wedded bliss.
During World War II, she served her country by joining the Civil Service. She first served at Ft. Ringo Army Base in Rio Grande City, TX and shortly thereafter she transferred to the Army Air Field in Harlingen, TX. In 1946, she transferred to Lackland Army Air Base in San Antonio, TX and retired from Kelly Air Force Base in 1972 with 30 years of service. She will be remembered for her loving, caring, and cheerful spirit that was shown to all. She was a beautiful dancer and an excellent bowler having won several awards. Since 1947, Frieda was totally dedicated to the Travis Methodist Church in San Antonio, TX.
She is survived by her husband, Luke John; brother, Eddie Schneider of San Benito, TX; sisters, Ruth Malich of Ft. Wayne, IN; Karoline Forren of Boerne, TX; and Sophie Kowalsky of San Benito, TX; dear friend Melva Uecker; and numerous nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Helen Townsend of Weimar, TX; and beloved brothers, Karl Schneider and ex-Marine and Chris Schneider, a U.S. Army veteran.
Visitation was held on December 26, 2013 at Mission Park South in San Antonio. Graveside services followed at Mission Park Cemetery. Memorials should be made to charities of their choice.
