De León’s ‘La Virgen’ well-received at Center

Internationally-renowned playwright, muralist, poet and artist Nephtalí de León is seen meeting with attendees of an event held in his honor at the Narciso Martinez Cultural Arts Center in San Benito on Thursday.

An internationally-renowned artist, playwright and poet visited San Benito this week to discuss the cultural impact of La Virgen de Guadalupe.

On Thursday, Dec. 12, Nephtalí de León, a renowned playwright, muralist, poet and artist whose works include the “La Virgen de Guadaliberty” painting, was on-hand at the Narciso Martinez Cultural Art Center where he spoke about his views on Chicano culture as it pertains to La Virgen.

De León is a Laredo native who now pays many visits to various schools, universities and events. Today, de León is perhaps better known for his poems, playwrights and various paintings.
