Fehrenbach dies at 88: San Benito historian gained national acclaim

Theodore Reed Fehrenbach Jr., known by his pen name T.R. Fehrenbach, died Sunday, Dec. 1, in San Antonio at the age of 88.

A native of San Benito, Fehrenbach received widespread acclaim as a historian, author and columnist for the San Antonio Express-News who was perhaps best known for authoring “Lone Star: (A History of Texas and Texans),” considered the definitive book on Texas history was the basis of a 1986 PBS miniseries.
