The nearly $1 million remodel project at San Benito City Hall is continuing with a December completion date scheduled. Funds for the project come from federal disaster assistance following Hurricane Dolly, rather from ad valorem taxes collected by the City. City Manager Manuel Lara, right, and Executive Assistant Ruth McGinnis survey work as the project nears completion.

The San Benito City Hall, located on 485 N. Sam Houston Blvd., is nearing completion of a year-long remodeling project.

The project, which began in fall of last year, was planned to repair major damage to the building sustained as a result of Hurricane Dolly in 2008.

“It started in the fall of 2012, so it’s been about a year,” said Public Relations Coordinator Martha McClain. “There are going to turn it over as substantially complete, with the exception of IT connections, any day now in late November.”

The city can’t afford to fix the streets, the water dept. has almost daily disruptions, the water bills are some of the highest known for small cities, the downtown area is deserted, the school system is a joke, and who knows what other items are being hidden from the citizens, and these clowns have the nerve to remodel the city hall.
Our city leaders should be taken to the wood shed,no exceptions.JulyRCtssV
