McALLEN — The challenges just keep on coming.

A week after a disappointing loss to Weslaco East, the San Benito Greyhounds hit the road to face the unbeaten McAllen High Bulldogs at McAllen Veterans Memorial Stadium.

San Benito (3-4 overall, 3-2 district) stonewalled Weslaco East’s running game last week but mistakes and turnovers cost a chance at a win. The 14-0 defeat snapped a two-game win streak for the ’Hounds.

The real question is who is supervising the athletic director? No one… Because this board would rather pay 2 superintendents at $1400 a day!

    1. Get coach Jim Rackley out of retirement use SB tax payers money to pay two super’s I think they can afford to invest money were they get a return by wining games and establishing a winning tradition before SB has to break up the high school like so many other schools in the RGV. Paint the school with locals on GREYHOUND FOOTBALL!!!! In very HALL very Face of the school BUILDING On the side of school buses On Water Towers! In the Cafeteria! GREYHOUND PRIDE makes winners!!! Ok boys practice is over TAKE IT IN!

If we busted out the microscope, I’m sure the San Benito Greyhounds wouldn’t be naturally as talented as say a bigger school like Harlingen or Sharyland or schools up North. So one could argue that it is not all the coach’s fault. However, the coach is responsible for instilling a football program. A winning program. An excellent program. A program that strives to be the best it can be. A program that does whatever it takes to do the most with what it has. I don’t see that here in San Benito. The football program lacks that. It lacks pride. It lacks honor. It lacks discipline. It lacks hunger. It lacks passion. I could go on. Coach Gantt does not over see the junior high football practices. In the 90s, varsity football coaches would go daily to check in on junior high athletics, practices, and games. That does not happen now. Coaches give young players nothing to look forward to, strive towards, work hard for. Practices last less than an hour. Players half way into the football season are taking a whole athletics period to figure out how to put on their pants still. Coaches cancel practice at their convenience. Players don’t practice when its raining. The football program is being built. But being built wrong. Its weak. Its failure. The 9th grade Academy doesn’t help either. Freshman should practice with upper classmen so that they know what to look forward to and know how hard they have to practice and know what is required. So that they are trained and groomed into excellence, hard work, winning. By the time they make it to varsity, they are so far behind it is no wonder they struggle against other varsity schools. You can blame it on lack of talent, but the coaches lack of coaching and bringing along the players year by year is the reason for lack of developed talent. Furthermore, the fact that coaches under Gantt do not see this problem is reason to put blame on them too. Its called integrity. Its called doing whats right. Its called a winning spirit. A winning attitude. Standing up for whats right no matter what the cost. It’s nothing personal, but Coach Gantt has to go. All football related coaches as well – from high school to junior high. Its nothing personal, but the players and community deserve whats best and deserve the best chance at winning and success. It’s nothing personal, but the program is broken, soft, weak, and has fallen. Pride Makes A Difference use to be the Greyhound motto. It clearly isn’t anymore.

You should get your facts straight before you leave a comment like that! The jv and varsity boys practice everyday and on Saturdays too. RAIN OR SHINE!! My son has pride, honor and discipline! My son will practice when injured or sick! I support the greyhounds 100%

You should read correctly before you leave a comment like that! The comment stated “LACKS” not “DO NOT HAVE”.
