District mourns death of NJROTC instructor, retired Chief Petty Officer Williams

San Benito CISD is mourning the loss of longtime Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps instructor and retired U.S. Navy Chief Petty Officer Richard Williams.

Williams died on Thursday at Valley Regional Medical Center in Brownsville after a lengthy illness.

Despite his health issues during the past 10 months, Williams was committed to his duties and continued working in the district, where he had been employed since 2004.

    Our hearts are broken over the loss of Chief. He was such a kind man. He was a great leader for the kids of NJROTC. I’m so proud that the SBISD chartered a bus and let all of the NJROTC students go to his service in Dallas. RIP Chief. You will be greatly missed.
