New safety measures in place at elementary campuses

School district officials have indicated that a number of security measures recently implemented at elementary campuses were designed to ensure student safety.

Several San Benito CISD campuses have already adopted a policy that does not allow parents to walk their children to class; Ed Downs Elementary is the latest to implement such measures. While some have been critical of the schools’ stance—many of whom parents who wish to continue chaperoning their kids to their classroom—administrators said they considered student safety the top priority when administering such changes.
