Developers and investors interested in building a natural gas-fueled power plant in San Benito are seen at a conference Thursday held inside the San Benito Public Library. The purpose of the conference was to inform Mexican investors of the EB-5 immigration option, a program created by the 1990 Immigration Act that awards conditional permanent residency to foreign investors who invest anywhere from $500,000 to $1 million in a targeted employment area (high unemployment or rural area).
Peter Del Mastro wants San Benito to have the power, and apparently so do a number of interested investors.
Del Mastro, managing partner for Henderson, Nevada-based Telemark Development Group, is proposing the construction of a $225 million natural gas-fueled power plant in San Benito that would generate 171 megawatts of electricity per day.
