SB signings (Track) pic-6-9-13Six San Benito High School student athletes signed to continue athletic careers at the collegiate level on Wednesday, June 5.

The athletes were participants in such sports at track, cross country and soccer.

“I’m really excited because I get to start the next chapter in my life,” said Rafael Duenes, 18, who signed to run track and cross country at the University of West Alabama. “It’s going to be fun to compete at the higher level, so I’m pretty excited. It’s out of state too, so I get to see new stuff and new scenery.”

Duenes said that he plans to pursue a degree in Kinesiology while at West Alabama.

“I would like to arrange my classes so that I have classes in the morning, that way I’ll have the afternoon off. I tend to pay more attention in classes in the morning than in the afternoon,” explained Duenes. “I’m going to see if I can arrange my classes to have two or three in the morning and have the afternoon off so I can run.”
