RIO HONDO – A former Rio Hondo Independent School District principal has been offered the recently vacated superintendent seat.

The Rio Hondo school board narrowed its list of candidates down to a lone finalist confirmed as former Rio Hondo High School Principal Ismael Garcia.

According to Board President Thomas E. Wiesman, Garcia will be Rio Hondo’s next superintendent pending a 21-day waiting period.

When asked what separated Garcia from the other candidates for superintendent, Wiesman said that Garcia’s previous work as RHHS principal may have played a role but did not give specifications.
