A community pep rally will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 29, at Bobby Morrow Stadium in an effort to celebrate the accomplishments of members the San Benito Lady Greyhound varsity softball team, headed by Coach Elias Martinez.

Martinez, his coaching staff and student athletes will be the evening’s honored guests as they earn recognition on behalf of the San Benito CISD Board of Trustees, campus administrative staff and central office staff.

The community pep rally will include special student performances by members of the band, cheerleaders and belles.

Such news comes after the Lady ’Hounds (34-2 overall) became the first team from the Rio Grande Valley to secure a trip to the state tournament, referred to as the Final Four, by defeating Smithson Valley in Laredo on Saturday by a score of 4-1. The win cemented the team’s Region IV championship after already earning the 31-5A district crown and bi-district, area, regional quarterfinals and regional semifinals titles.
