It wasn’t the most conventional of victories, but none of that matters to the San Benito Lady ’Hounds.
What matters is they’re back in the Sweet 16.
The Lady ’Hounds (30-2) will now take on San Antonio O’Connor (31-3) in a one-game regional semifinal playoff on Friday night at Cabaniss Softball Field in Corpus Christi. First pitch is set for 7 p.m.
After Game 1 of their 5A regional quarterfinal series with Eagle Pass was postponed in the 6th inning (with San Benito up 2-0) on Friday night due to lightning in the Laredo area, some confusion ensued as to what exactly would happen.
University Interscholastic League officials were notified and the ruling was the game had to be completed on Saturday. However, some were surprised when the UIL also stated that the game would revert back to a one-game playoff since the teams could not complete three games in one day.
With the Eagle Pass contingent upset and both sides vocal, San Benito recorded the final six outs and sent the Lady Eagles home by prevailing 2-0 and saw their state ranking climb to seventh.
