NEWS Staff Report

HoundsSan Benito Lady Greyhound golfer Emma Valle competed at the Region IV Girls’ Golf Tournament in San Antonio Wednesday and Thursday.

According to San Benito High School golf coach Rene Montalvo, Valle, a sophomore who’s already a two-time regional qualifier, placed 40th of 95 participants in the tourney, which was held at Brackenridge Golf Course.

The first day total for Valle was 91, which was tied for 51st that day, and 85, which tied for 30th the second day.

As previously reported, Valle fired an 83 at the 31-5A district tournament, held at the Tierra Santa Golf Club in Weslaco, last week to take top individual girls honors and advance to her second consecutive 5A regional tournament and the only San Benito golfer to advance this year.

In a previous interview, Valle, a student of local pro Joe Cardenas at Treasure Hills Golf Club, said she spends “about 15 hours” per week practicing her game with her father and brother.
